Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

A fully-funded PhD studentship for the UK/EU students is available in the Device Modelling group at University of Warwick and will cover University fees at the UK/EU rate, a maintenance allowance and research training support. This project entitled "Nanoscale material discovery for thermoelectric energy harvesting and cooling" is funded by EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training: HetSys for 4 years to be started on October 2020 but we are aiming to secure a strong candidate by the end of January 2020.

The aim of the project is to exploit electronic and vibrational properties of nanoscale materials to discover and design new materials for energy harvesting and cooling of low power devices such as mobile phones and laptops. The ultimate goal of the research is to understand quantum and phonon transport through molecular structures for functional quantum devices. The candidate will receive a broad training on computational materials modelling and gain experience with cutting edge quantum transport simulation methods, conduct a vibrant research project with high publication potential and would have an opportunity to conduct collaborative projects with internationally leading experimental groups in the UK, Europe and beyond.

We are looking for an enthusiastic student with a first-class or 2.1 honours degree at BSc or MSc in physical science or engineering disciplines and a strong interest in computational materials modelling. Experience with molecular scale simulation is desirable but not essential.

To apply, please provide a single PDF document including a cover letter, full curriculum vitae, a list of all publications and contact information for two references by email to Dr. H Sadeghi ([email protected]) before the end of Jan 2020.
