Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…
Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.
In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Hereon has a unique infrastructure for complementary materials research with photons and neutrons.
PhD Student Phase retrieval for X-ray phase contrast tomography experiments at PETRA III
Reference code: 50073090_4 – 2021/WP 8
Commencement date: as soon as possible
Work location: Hamburg
Application deadline: January 2nd, 2022
Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon maintains a permanent outstation at DESY in Hamburg in order to provide synchrotron radiation to our users from academia and industry for the purpose of materials science. At the world’s largest synchrotron radiation source PETRA III we jointly operate imaging beamlines (P05 IBL, P07 HEMS) for X-ray computed tomography (CT).
During tomography experiments large amounts of 3D and 4D imaging data are acquired. In addition to conventional attenuation contrast tomography, phase contrast imaging techniques are employed in order to enhance the signal intensity and to visualize soft tissues. In situ / operando / in vivo experiments impose further restrictions on the scan times or the X-ray dose and therefore require a fine tuning of experimental parameters. In order to enhance image quality, reduce artefacts, accelerate data acquisition and extend these techniques beyond current limitations, advanced phase retrieval methods will be implemented including algebraic, iterative, functional or learning-based approaches. In addition, combined approaches for phase retrieval and tomographic reconstruction are investigated.
The position is initially limited to three years.
Equality of opportunity is an important part of our personnel policy. We would therefore strongly encourage qualified women to apply for the position.
