The Computational Aerosol Physics group at the University of Helsinki, Finland is looking for PhD students to work with research topics relevant to the group.
While we are primarily looking for PhD students, also post-doc applications will be considered if the candidate possesses considerable experience in one or more of the key topics described below.
The group is led by professor Hanna Vehkamäki and applies a large variety of theoretical and simulation methods to investigate the formation of molecular clusters in the atmosphere. https://wiki.helsinki.fi/display/SimuWiki/SimuWiki+Home
The successful candidate will have an MSc in Physics, Chemistry, Meteorology, Materials Science, Computer Science or related disciplines. Experience of modeling molecular clusters, phase change processes and/or chemical reactions, as well as knowledge of statistical physics, computational chemistry software or programming languages, are also desirable. We are especially interested in candidates with experience of molecular dynamics or Monte Carlo methods, conformational sampling of molecular systems, and reaction dynamic/kinetic methods. The open positions are related to the ERC-Advanced grant DAMOCLES https://erc.europa.eu/projects-and-results/erc-funded-projects/%22atmospheric%20nanocluster%22
We are located at the Kumpula Campus of the University of Helsinki, one of the major clusters of high-level atmospheric science in Europe, and have close collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Meteorology of Atmospheric Composition and Climate Change. The University of Helsinki, founded in 1640, is the oldest and highest-ranking university in Finland. With almost 8 000 employees and 35 000 students, it is also one of the largest universities in the Nordic countries.
Evaluation of applications will start immediately, starting date can be negotiated, with preference to start in the spring 2017.
