One fully funded PhD position is available for highly motivated students through the material science department at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama, USA. The goal of the project is to develop a very selective electrochemical removal process for the synthesis of novel 2-D materials. Specifically, we will be exploring the conditions needed to successfully etch MXenes from corresponding MAX phase materials.
Students will be responsible for running high throughput DFT calculations for the systems of interest and extracting the relevant properties. Students will work closely with experimental collaborators validating results.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Willingness to work on an interdisciplinary theoretical/computational project
-Programming experience; Programming experience in Python will be especially helpful.'
-Proficient English Skills
Experience running DFT and MD simulations of surface systems are welcomed but not required.
