Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

A PhD position is available in the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Queensland (UQ), under the supervision of Dr Carla Verdi. The project, funded by the Australian Research Council, will be focused on the computational modelling of quantum emitters in hexagonal boron nitride, in collaboration with Prof Milos Toth and members of the experimental Quantum Materials and Nanophotonics Group at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
The scholarship will cover tuition fees and a living stipend according to the current UQ rates and is open to both domestic and international students. The commencement date is flexible and can be agreed with the chosen applicant, commensurate with the Australian goverment's visa requirements for international students.
Additional details are provided at this link.

Requirements:
-Bachelor's degree with Honours or Master's degree in Physics, Materials Science or a related discipline.
-Background in condensed matter and materials physics or a related field, ideally with experience in computational research.
-Good written and oral communication skills. Note that international students must generally meet UQ's minimum English language requirements (overall IELTS of 6.5 or equivalent).
-Previous experience in materials modelling using first-principles methods is highly desirable.
-General entry requirements are listed here.

How to apply:
Before applying, you are encouraged to contact directly Dr Carla Verdi ([email protected]) to discuss your suitability for this scholarship. Please include your academic CV and a personal statement (max. 1 page) addressing your motivation for pursuing a PhD in this area and any previous experience with computational materials physics or other relevant research.
Additional project details and instructions to apply are provided at the link above.
Please apply by 6 March. Later applications will be considered in exceptional circumstances or if the position has not been filled.
