Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Applications are invited for Fall 2016 admission to the PhD program in physics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. An opening in the group of Prof. Kirill Belashchenko is available for a graduate student interested in computational magnetism, spin-dependent transport, and spintronics. Information about recent research can be found at http://physics.unl.edu/~kirillb/. Strong academic background is required, and some experience with first-principles calculations is desirable. The details of the application process and admission requirements can be found at the department’s website. To ensure full consideration, interested candidates should submit their applications by January 31, 2016, but late applications may also be considered.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at UNL is home to vibrant, world-class research programs in condensed matter, atomic/molecular/plasma, and high-energy physics, which are supported by more than $16 million annually in external research funding. All graduate students are supported by teaching or research assistantships, which include a stipend and a full tuition waiver.

In the past ten years 65 students received PhD degrees in physics at UNL. Our alumni have been very successful in finding excellent career opportunities in academia, national labs, and industry.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is located in an up-and-coming and safe city of 300,000 people, which has many of the cultural and entertainment benefits of a much larger city, with the feel of a friendly Midwestern community.

Please contact Prof. Belashchenko for more information.
