Applications are invited for a PhD-student position in computational materials science at the Division of Materials theory, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Uppsala University, Sweden (http://www.physics.uu.se/research/materials-theory/). The candidate will work on ab-initio molecular dynamics simulations and spectroscopy calculations based on Density Functional Theory (DFT), to investigate water-solid interfaces at atomic scale. The focus of the work will be the theoretical study of water oxidation and CO2 reduction reactions, which are relevant chemical reactions during the solar fuel production. The work will be conducted in close collaboration with experimental groups in a joint theory-experiment effort to develop operando spectroscopy methodologies, based on synchrotron spectroscopy, to study energy materials.
The Division of Materials theory is known to have a world-class research environment in the ab-initio computational research on the materials properties. Besides the usage of existing state-of-the-art computational codes, a perpetual development of new methods and computational techniques is done in this department. The Division of Materials Theory is an international environment with an extended net of worldwide collaborations.
The applicant is expected to have a master degree in Physics, or equivalent. A background in methods based on density functional theory (DFT), along with their software implementations, is recommended. The candidate should have good communication skills, excellent grades and developed abilities in written and spoken English.
The application should be submitted through the following link:
