Job description
Within the framework of an international German-American collaborative project, you will be working with leading researchers from both countries to exploit the high energy density of lithium metal and make it useable for applications in rechargeable batteries. The biggest obstacle to this is currently the high reactivity of lithium metal, which is difficult to control. You are therefore applying MATLAB-based multiscale models to understand the formation of passivation layers and how these can be optimized by the choice of material composition. From your results, you will derive design recommendations in close collaboration with our German and American project partners. You will publish your research results in project reports and journals and present them at national and international conferences.

Research stays abroad will be supported.

We are also happy to offer you the opportunity to pursue a doctorate.

Required skills/qualification:
You have an above-average university degree (M.Sc.) or PhD in the field of natural or engineering
sciences (e.g. chemical engineering, material sciences, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering,
(techno)mathematics or similar). Furthermore, you bring an enthusiasm for and experience in the
field of mathematical modeling and simulation. Previous knowledge in the field of (electro-)chemistry, battery technology and/or reaction kinetics as well as programming experience are advantageous. In addition, you show enthusiasm and interest in scientific and interdisciplinary problem analysis at the interface between engineering sciences, material sciences and chemistry. We expect self-initiative and independent action, creativity, teamwork and good communication skills in written and spoken English.

Benefits:
Expect to work for an employer who appreciates your commitment, offers you an attractive and modern workplace with access to the excellent equipment of KIT and a wide range of training op-portunities. Our unique working environment offers you a diverse and responsible job with a lot of room for your ideas.

We offer flexible working time models, a supplementary pension according to VBL, a subsidy for the Job Ticket BW, and a canteen.
