Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The chair of Numerical Mathematics for High-Performance Computing, in association with Professor B. Stamm at the Institute for Applied Mathematics and Numerical Simulation at the University of Stuttgart is looking for Ph.D. candidates to run projects on cutting-edge interdisciplinary topics on the interface between electronic structure theory and applied Mathematics.

The chair of Numerical Mathematics for High-Performance Computing [1] at the University of Stuttgart invites applicants for several PhD positions (75% TVL-E13 at the German salary scale) to run projects on cutting-edge interdisciplinary topics on the interface between electronic structure theory and applied Mathematics [2].

The chair develops new methods for problems arising in theoretical chemistry, physics, and material science with a focus on a solid mathematical framework, but many projects of the group are interdisciplinary such as the projects associated with the current openings.

For these openings, an MSc in Applied Mathematics, Computational Engineering Science, or Simulation Science is expected. Applicants from Physics/Chemistry with strong grades in Mathematics/programming will also be considered. Excellent knowledge in computational mathematics and scientific computing as well as advanced programming skills are expected.

How to apply
Please send the application including the CV, a motivation letter, transcript, and two contacts that could provide a recommendation to [email protected]. If you have further questions, please contact Prof. Dr. B. Stamm ([email protected]).
