PhD positions Groningen / Multi-scale Mechanics (No replies)

Multiple fully funded PhD positions are available in the group of Francesco Maresca (https://www.rug.nl/staff/f.maresca/) at the University of Groningen, Netherlands, in Multi-scale mechanics modelling of materials.

The positions will involve using Molecular Dynamics simulations and/or continuum Crystal Plasticity to model fracture, phase transitions and dislocation plasticity in metals, with focus on the following problems:

1. Hydrogen Embrittlement in Steels;

2. Solute strengthening in High Entropy Alloys;

3. Functional fatigue in Shape Memory Alloys.

The positions are for four years, with flexible start date.

Candidate’s profile:

- M.Sc. in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science.

- Preference for candidates with proven experience in Molecular Dynamics or computational Solid Mechanics (e.g. Finite Elements).
