A position for Research Associate (m/f/d) (salary level of German public service TV-L E13 / 60 %) financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG) within the Priority Program (SPP) 2196 “Perovskite semiconductors: From fundamental properties to devices” is available in the group of by Prof. Caterina Cocchi at the Physics Department of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg from 01.07.2020 initially until 31.10.2022. A prolongation of the project is foreseen past this date. The position is intended to lead to a Ph.D. in physics.
The project
The offered position is part of the project “Illuminating Building Block Evolution of Metal-Halide Perovskite Semiconductors from Solutions to Thin Films (GLIMPSE)”, which aims to gain fundamental understanding on the structural, electronic, and optical properties of metal-halide complexes in solutions and to follow their evolution towards the formation of crystalline semiconductors. This interdisciplinary research, at the boundary between chemistry and physics, will be carried out from first-principles methods (time-dependent density-functional theory and many-body perturbation theory), in close collaboration with an experimental partner group at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin. Interactions with other projects within the SPP 2196 are also foreseen.
Our requests
The ideal candidate is a motivated student with a strong interest in pursuing theoretical-computational research on material properties, who has achieved a Master's Degree (or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, or related disciplines. Knowledge of quantum mechanics, basic programming skills, and the ability to communicate in English (oral and written) are a must. Prior experience with (time-dependent) density-functional theory, many-body perturbation theory, and/or quantum-chemistry methods is an asset.
Our offer
The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg is a young and dynamic university in the north-west of Germany. Located in Lower Saxony, Oldenburg offers a family-friendly environment and a high-quality life standard. It is part of the Bremen/Oldenburg metropolitan region hosting over 2.3 Mio people and providing efficient public transport infrastructure for national and international connections. Prof. Caterina Cocchi and her enthusiastic team of young scientists have created an international and stimulating environment promoting teamwork and individual self-development. The group has a consolidated collaboration network in Germany, Europe, and worldwide.
How to apply
Send preferentially by email to Prof. Dr. Caterina Cocchi ([email protected]) until 22.05.2020 your curriculum vitae (including education, thesis title, final grades and, if applicable, a list of publications and conference contributions), the transcripts of your degrees in English or German, the contacts of at least two references, and a 1-page motivation letter explaining your interest in the offered position.
Selection procedure
Selected candidates will be invited for an interview in video-conference.
The University of Oldenburg is dedicated to increase the percentage of female employees in the field of science. Therefore, female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. According to § 21, 3 NHG female applicants are to be preferentially considered in case of equal qualification.
Disabled applicants will be given preference in case of equal qualification.
