Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

A PhD position is available at the Molecular Transport group in Prague ( https://www.fzu.cz/~vazquez/ ) on the calculation of electronic and conducting properties of single molecule circuits. The project is linked to a research grant from the Czech Science Agency (GAČR). The starting date is early 2021.

The project studies the flow of an electrical current across metal-molecule-metal junctions. To do this, we will calculate the geometry, electronic structure and conducting properties of molecular wires combining semi-empirical and DFT-based methods.

Candidates should ideally have experience in the calculation of molecules at surfaces. Programming experience (eg. python, fortran) will be an advantage.

The group is part of the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. We offer a dynamic scientific environment, training courses (eg. scientific writing, presentation skills…), participation in international conferences and close interaction with experiment. Twice a year there are bonuses based on performance and productivity. Housing is possible via the Academy of Sciences.

Candidates should send a cover letter explaining their motivation and interests and describing their research experience, if any. Applications should include a CV and publication list, and the contact details of two references. Consideration of candidates will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Informal enquires are welcome at [email protected]
