Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

PI: Jun-Prof. Dr. Giulia Rossetti

RWTH Aachen University (http://www.rwth‐aachen.de/) in collaboration with the Computational Biomedicine department IAS-5/INM-9 of Forschungszentrum Jülich (http://www.fz-juelich.de/ias/ias-5/EN/Home/home_node.html) offers a PhD position on “Computational Molecular Science”.

The research activity will require employing Bioinformatics, Molecular Dynamics (classical and ab initio) and computational pharmacology methodologies, and it will focus on the following topics:

• Proteins of neurobiological interest involved in epigenetic process of memory formation.
• Non-coding RNAs and their interaction with proteins in the fine control of epigenetic processes.
• Molecular mechanisms underlying memory formation as well as memory dysfunctions in neuropathologies.
• Molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity

The computational research will be mainly carried out at the Forschungszentrum Jülich, which is one of the largest research centers in Germany, with excellent scientific equipment and leading European computational resources, located on a green campus, and near the cultural centers Köln, Düsseldorf, and Aachen.

In addition, the research will be performed in collaboration with experts from the University Hospital RWTH Aachen, at molecular and cellular levels up to the level of cognitive functions.

The good candidate must have a master in (bio-)chemistry, physics or related field. A basic knowledge of computational biology techniques and familiarity with the Unix operating system are required as well.

The PhD position, in a creative and international environment with the opportunity to work in a unique interdisciplinary team, is available for 3 years. Payment of the PhD fellow will be based on salary grade EG 13 (50%) Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD).

RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich aim to employ more women in this area and therefore particularly welcome applications from women. They also welcome applications from disabled persons.
