Applications are invited for a postgraduate research position at the Institute of Technology, Sligo, Ireland. This position is funded by the IT Sligo President’s Bursary Scheme and will be available in October/November 2020 in the group of Dr. Akinlolu Akande in collaboration with Prof. Stefano Sanvito of Trinity College Dublin, Ireland and Dr. Fadwa El-Mellouhi of QEERI, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar. The focus of the PhD will be on Bismuth-chalcogenides for photovoltaics and photocatalytic performance using simulations based on Density Functional Theory. The PhD candidate will be based in Sligo, with visits to Dublin and Qatar.

Applicant is expected to have a degree (preferably M.Sc.) in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent with a robust background in solid state physics and knowledge of numerical simulations (programming skills are appreciated). He/She should be able to work independently as well as with a team. Good communication skills in English are also required. The starting date of the PhD will be October/November 2020, as compatible with COVID19 restrictions.
