Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

PhD position at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany

We are looking for a highly motivated person in the field of multiscale modelling. The aim of the project is to develop an understanding of surface processes related to graphene growth using DFT and to couple this with kinetic Monte Carlo models in a collaboration with other researchers at KIT.

Research training group

We offer participation in the research training group 2450 (https://www.compnano.kit.edu). This graduate school addresses the development and application of multi-scale approaches aiming to combine the methods of ab initio quantum chemistry, force-field and coarse-grained approaches. The graduate school offers a range of qualification program consisting of courses, hands-on tutorials, seminar days, workshops and transferable skills training, lab-rotations, mandatory conference participations and optional research stays with research partners. The program has general parts, which are mandatory for all participants, and individual parts, which will be tailored to the specific situation and needs of the individual students. The project will be carried out at the Institute of Catalysis Research and Technology in the group of Prof. Studt (https://www.ikft.kit.edu/english/232.php).

Funding: approximately 38,000 € per year (before taxes).

Candidates

The applicant should have a master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or physics with background in heterogeneous catalysis and/or simulations.
