Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Within the federally funded (BMBF) project “Digitization of a process chain for the production, characterization and prototypical application of magnetocaloric alloys (DiProMag)” we are seeking for a PhD candidate (m/f/d) who is interested in performing multiscale simulations of magnetocaloric alloys in the computational materials sciences group of Prof. Christian Schröder starting January 2022. Initially the position is offered until 31.01.2024. Subject to the commitment by the BMBF and the personal prerequisites, an extension for another year can be offered. The project DiProMag is a joined project of the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and the Bielefeld University, both Universities are located on the Campus Bielefeld within walking distance.

The scientific research focuses on but is not limited to:

·        Coupled ab initio, molecular dynamics, and atomistic spin dynamics simulations

·        Phase field simulations

We are looking for excellent candidates fulfilling the following requirements:

·        Master degree in Physics, Material Science, Chemistry, and Mathematics or a related discipline. Practical experience with DFT calculations, and/or atomistic spin dynamics simulations, especially for magnetic materials is a plus

·        Strong capability for independent problem solving and troubleshooting

·        Self-motivated, goal-oriented personality with good interpersonal skills supporting the teamwork in an international, interdisciplinary environment

·        Good proficiency in oral and written English, knowing German is a plus.

With more than 11,000 students, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences is the largest university of applied sciences in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe (OWL) region. With its campuses in Bielefeld, Gütersloh and Minden, it is excellently networked regionally, nationally and internationally through diverse partnerships and research collaborations in science, business and culture. Foreign applicants are explicitly invited to apply. The University offers generous terms and conditions of employment, a wide range of benefits, services, facilities and family friendly policies. The University intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to TV-L of the state of North Rhine Westphalia.

Please address your application with the documents (CV, certificates, publication list, names of 2 references), preferentially as one PDF file by email, to Christian Schröder ([email protected]), FH Bielefeld, Department of Engineering and Mathematics, Interaktion 1, 33619 Bielefeld.
