Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

A 3-year PhD student position in photochemistry and photophysics of materials in 3D laser nanoprinting is available in the Wenzel group “Multiscale Materials Modelling and Virtual Design” in the Institute of Nanotechnology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany). We are seeking talented candidates, who will apply quantum mechanical methods for understanding photoreactivity of chromophores, as well as the development of multiscale simulation methods to work within the Cluster of Excellence at KIT “3D Matter Made to Order” (3DMM2O).

The Cluster of Excellence is a collaboration of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Heidelberg University (Uni HD) pursues an interdisciplinary approach through conjunction of natural and engineering sciences. 3DMM2O establishes scalable digital 3D Additive Manufacturing transcending from the molecular to the macroscopic scale. The goal is the ultimate digitalization of 3D manufacturing and material processing. This approach converts digital information into functional materials, devices and systems “made to order.” 3DMM2O creates a powerful technology push and pull by treating molecular materials, technologies and applications.

The selected candidate will work on the photoreactivity of photoinitiators, applied for 3D laser nanoprinting of materials, as well as the multiscale materials design methods with applications in metal-organic frameworks in collaboration with experimental groups.

Requirements:

The candidate must hold an excellent Master's degree in chemistry, interdisciplinary natural sciences, physics, or related and have profound English and autonomous learning ability skills. We expect the ability and desire to work in a heterogeneous interdisciplinary environment and strong research skills. Knowledge about electronic structure theory is highly desirable. Programming skills and knowledge molecular dynamics and/or photochemistry are an advantage.

Funding:

You will be paid according to the standard government payscale of the National Science Foundation in Germany and will receive roughly 1800€ per month or an equivalent stipend.

You will be associated within the HEiKA Graduate School on “Functional Materials”, what is a central structural element of 3DMM2O.  You will be offered diverse scientific and management courses, held by the HECTOR School of Engineering and Management, as well as the Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists (KHYS). It includes also the complete MBA Fundamentals Program.

How to apply:

Inquiries should be directed via email to [email protected] with a full CV including employment record and academic achievements. Copies of university transcripts or certificates are not required at this point. Candidates whose native language is not English should document their proficiency in written and spoken English.
