The group Scale-Bridging Simulation of Functional Compositeses of the Interdisciplinary Center for Advanced Materials Simulations (ICAMS) at Ruhr-University Bochum (Germany) is looking for a PhD student (m,f,x).
We are a young international team of physicists and engineers working in the field of scale-bridging computer simulations. We focus on the structure-property relationship in functional materials -- particluarly on microscopic processes in ferroelectrics and at phase transitions in ferroelectrics.

This PhD positions is part of the DFG project Molectra and the student will closely collaborate with an experimental group (Lupascu, Uni Duisburg-Essen).

Your tasks:

  • you will run computer simulations (DFT and MD),
  • you will use python to automatize/analyze your simulations/results,
  • you will collaborate with experimentalists and our international team/collaborators,
  • you will document, publish and present your results (international conferences),
  • you have the chance to gain first experiences in supervising students,
  • you may contribute to method development.

Your profile:

  • master or diploma in Physics, Material science, or similar,
  • excellent English skills,
  • solid background in solid state physics and/or atomistic simulations,
  • ability to work independently and in an international interdisciplinar team,
  • programming in python and/or C/C++ or Fortran are a plus.

We offer:

  • challenging and varied tasks with a high degree of personal responsibility,
  • team-oriented cooperation in a committed, international and appreciative team,
  • an agile way of working,
  • employment at one of Germany's largest universities in the University Alliance Ruhr network,
  • fair working hours and family-friendly working conditions
