Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Applications are invited for a PhD position in quantum-classical simulations of excitation dynamics in biological and bio-inspired systems within the DFG-funded Research Training Group (RTG) "Quantum Mechanical Materials Modelling (QM3)" located in Bremen, Germany (www.rtg-qm3.de). The position is available in the research group of Prof. Ulrich Kleinekathoefer at the Department of Physics and Earth Sciences, Jacobs University Bremen (http://ukleinekat.user.jacobs-university.de).

The PhD project will focus on a combination of molecular dynamics simulations, electronic structure calculations and quantum dynamics to model the initial steps in light harvesting. The systems will include complexes with pigments in biological environments but also pigments at surfaces. Aim is to mimic some of the important properties of biological systems in man-made systems at surfaces.

The successful candidate should have a Master of Science with a background in physics or chemistry and a strong academic record. Applicants must be highly motivated for doctoral studies, possess the ability to work independently as well as good levels of cooperative and communicative abilities. A good command of English is essential, both as the local working language and because of our international collaborations.

The position is available immediately and applications will be considered until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a CV, a brief statement of research interests, and the names of two referees by e-mail to Prof. Ulrich Kleinekathoefer at u
