Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Institute of Physics at Faculty of Science of University of South Bohemia in Ceske Budejovice (Czech Republic) invites applications for a PhD position co-funded by Czech Science Foundation (GACR) on the theme "Electron transfer on electrified heterogeneous interfaces with redox metalloproteins" available immediately.

The research project is focused on the charge-transfer properties of metalloproteins in contact with metal surfaces in solution. The phenomena are going to be investigated by computational physics / chemistry approaches including classical molecular dynamics (MD), density functional theory (DFT) and the hybrid QM/MM techniques. Special attention will be paid to bias-potential and external-electric-field effects on the structure and conductivity of the studied systems.

The interested candidate should have a Master degree (or equivalent) from computational physics, theoretical chemistry or related subject and be motivated for independent scientific work within an international research team. Previous experience with calculations of current-voltage characteristics, classical molecular dynamics on biomolecular systems, or first-principle calculations are welcomed. Interest in code development (C, Fortran, Python) and/or experience with computational packages such as Gromacs and CP2K is an advantage but not required.

The work will be supervised by Dr. Zdenek Futera to whom the applications should be submitted ([email protected]). The applications should include CV, a motivation letter and recommendation letter from senior academics or scientists.
