Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The FMF and partners in Karlsruhe and Freiburg are conducting both experimental and theoretical research on

“Electrode materials for Lithium ion batteries”

within a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The purpose of this project is the development of crystalline network structures with low mechanical deformability at high ionic conductivity. The partners of the FMF are at the Institute for Applied Materials of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM in Freiburg.

Relationships between crystal structure, ionic conductivity, and mechanical deformability of such electrode materials as function of the chemical composition are investigated at the FMF and the IWM (group “Materials Modeling”) by means of first-principles calculations with density functional theory (DFT) and atomistic simulations with empirical interatomic potentials.

For this theoretical task as a PhD work we are looking for a Theoretical Physicist or Chemist.

As applicant, you have got an academic degree in Physics or Chemistry which entitles you for PhD admission in Physics at the University of Freiburg. You are well trained and skilled in scientific research, highly interested and knowledgeable in theoretical solid-state physics and computer simulations, and motivated to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team.

The contract duration for this part-time position (80%) will be initially 2 years. The salary will be determined in accordance with TV-L E13. We are particularly pleased to receive applications from women for the position advertised here.

Please send your application including supporting documents mentioned above citing the reference number 00001134, by 14.08.2020 at the latest. Please send your application to the following address in written or electronic form:
