A fully funded 4-year Ph.D. position is available at the Department of Chemistry and Physics of Materials at the University of Salzburg, Austria. The successful applicant will join the newly formed Materials Theory group and work on defect-induced functionality in either (photo)electrocatalysis or ferroic materials using density functional theory.

  • Planned starting date: October 1st, 2023.
  • Required qualifications: Completed MSc degree in materials science, physics, chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • Desired qualifications: Experience with DFT calculations of solids and their surfaces, knowledge of defect chemistry and/or (electro)catalysis. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Programming skills in at least one major language (e.g. python, C/C++, java). Self-motivation, initiative, teamwork, and a targeted and highly structured working style.

The minimum salary is € 2.458 per month, payable 14 times a year.
