The Exner group is going to hire a PhD student as

Scientific Researcher (f/m/d)
(Payment according to Grade E 13 TV-L)

at the Faculty of Chemistry, Theoretical Inorganic Chemistry, Campus Essen.

Research topic:

Participation in the research project “Comprehending the Oxygen and Chlorine Evolution Reactions over IrO2-Based Electrode Materials on the Atomic Scale“ with the focus on the investigation of iridium-based materials for the electrochemical oxygen and chlorine evolution reactions.

The Exner group is having a long-term experience in the theoretical description of the chlorine evolution reaction over different electrode materials. Applicants are referred to recent publications (ACS Catalysis 2021, 11, 12232-12246; Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys. 2020, 22, 22451-22458; ChemElectroChem 2020, 7, 1448-1455; ChemElectroChem 2020, 7, 1528-1530; ChemElectroChem 2019, 6, 3401-3409; Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2014, 53, 11032- 11035).

The work on the research project includes close collaboration with experimental working groups via the cluster of excellence RESOLV (Ruhr Explores Solvation), funded by the federal government as well as the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Several opportunities are available for the successful candidate, including a three-month stay abroad in the US to expand knowledge.

Expected start of position: January 1, 2022

Contract period: 36 months (50% position, enhanced to 67% upon good performance)
