we have a PhD opportunity at the School of Chemistry, University of Birmingham, UK as part of the CDT in Topological Design. As part of the CDT the student will receive training across the broad field of Topology and have the opportunity to interact with students and academic colleagues across physics, chemistry and materials sciences.  

The PhD project will study how bending molecular crystals influences the material structure and topological properties, with the aim to understand the fascinating phenomenon and potential applications of mechanical flexibility. The project is primarily computational based, and will include some supporting experimental measurements at international synchrotron and neutron facilities in collaboration with the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin, Germany.  

Funding is available at Home/UK rate, though exceptional international students can be also considered. Application deadline is 30 Jan 2023, and applications can be made here.
