Company Description
The Bosch Research and Technology Center North America with offices in Sunnyvale, California, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Cambridge, Massachusetts is part of the global Bosch Group (www.bosch.com), a company with over 70 billion euro revenue, 400,000 people worldwide, a very diverse product portfolio, and a history of over 125 years. The Research and Technology Center North America (RTC-NA) is committed to providing technologies and system solutions for various Bosch business fields primarily in the areas of Human Machine Interaction (HMI), Robotics, Energy Technologies, Internet Technologies, Circuit Design, Semiconductors and Wireless, and MEMS Advanced Design.
Job Description
As a Quantum Computational Materials Science intern at the Bosch Research and Technology Center North America you will have the opportunity to participate in the development of both classical and quantum algorithms for atomistic simulations of materials with correlated electrons. The goals of this work are to (1) perform computational design of next-generation magnetic and catalytic materials for electromobility and energy applications, (2) investigate the root causes of materials degradation phenomena causing device failure and reliability issues, and (3) integrate future error-corrected quantum computers into existing computational workflows. You will have access to state-of-the-art high performance computing infrastructure, enabling you to run and test quantum algorithms using quantum computer simulator software.
Required Qualification
• Currently pursuing PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or a related technical field.
• Fundamental understanding of materials science, solid-state physics, and chemistry.
• Hands-on experience in atomistic simulations (density functional theory or quantum chemistry).
• Research experience, excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Desired Qualification
• Coding experience (Python, Fortran, C/C++).
• Working experience with electron correlation methods (Hubbard models, Wannier functions, RPA, GW, DMFT, post-HF methods).
• Familiarity with quantum circuits (Cirq, Qiskit) and quantum algorithms (VQE).
