Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

We are looking highly motivated individuals with a keen interest in computer modelling and quantum technologies. All candidates must have proof of a finished degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biochemistry or equivalent by 15/09/2019.

The chosen candidates will apply for a scholarhip for quantum technologies coordinated by Joaquin Rossier (INL) and Manuel Melle-Franco (CICECO) within the quantum Portugal initiatiative

The student will work in CICECO at the University of Aveiro and at the Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Braga, with some stays abroad. The research will be devoted to understanding the fundamentals of bioquantum sensing processes. Namely, the ones used by birds to navigate the earth, this will be performed by the exclusive means of computational and theoretical tools.

Direct experience in quantum chemistry and/or computational physics is not required, however, in that case, some other means to asses the aptitude of the applicant must be provided.

Scholarships are fully funded for four years, including tuition fees, during which the student will also follow a doctoral program  in condensed matter physics or another suitable doctoral program suitable for his/her background.

We may also consider outstanding candidates for predoctoral scholarships available under the project: Graphene for a New Generation of Electronic (IF/00894/2015)

This call is for expression of interest, selected candidates may have to present recommendation letters might be interviewed in later selection stages.
