Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

One PhD and one post-doctoral position are open in the Otto-Hahn Group of Mariana Rossi, which will start in the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society (https://www.fhi-berlin.mpg.de/) in Berlin, in October 2016. The research in the group will deal with state of the art electronic structure methods, nuclear quantum effects, and machine-learning techniques with the goal of developing a bottom-up approach for the simulation of organic and bio molecular systems.
The study will range from isolated situations to their interaction with solid state surfaces (organic/inorganic interfaces) and with solvent molecules. The group will work in close collaboration with the Theory department (http://th.fhi-berlin.mpg.de/site/) of the Fritz Haber Institute, and likely also experimental departments, especially Molecular Physics (http://www.fhi-berlin.mpg.de/mp/) and Physical Chemistry (http://www.fhi-berlin.mpg.de/pc/).

The start date is from September/October 2016 onwards. We are looking for a post-doc with a strong mathematical background and a PhD in theoretical Physics or Chemistry, that is also familiar with programming in Fortran and Python. Applicants for the PhD position should hold a Master or equivalent degree, and should have a strong background in theoretical physics, physical chemistry or theoretical chemistry.

The Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society offers a stimulating environment for interdisciplinary research, with a strong collaboration between theorists and experimentalists. The facilities and the accessible computer resources are among the best in the world, beyond being located in one of the most interesting capitals of Europe: Berlin.

For more information and applications contact: Dr. Mariana Rossi ([email protected]).
