Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Foremost the studies concern correlated electronic structure, both on a model level and on more realistic levels, and its responsibility for the formation of complex phases with both magnetism and superconductivity. An important part of these studies is to investigate the topology and symmetry of both the electron structure and the resulting order parameters. These studies will be conducted through both analytical and numerical methods, where the student will be given freedom to define suitable methods. An interesting type of materials to be studied is the family of the uranium-based ferromagnetic superconductors related to UGe2.

The division of Materials theory at Uppsala University offers a world-class environment for materials theory and quantum matter theory research, with interests spanning from strongly correlated and topological states of matter to atomistic spin simulations and first-principles calculations of a very broad range of functional materials. The division currently consists of approximately 90 researchers, of which about a third are Ph.D. students.

This Ph.D. project will be performed within a recently started research program on Quantum Matter Theory, formed by researchers with well established and complementary experience of theory of correlated materials that exhibit magnetism or superconductivity.

This project will be supervised by Lars Nordström, Jonas Fransson and Annica Black-Schaffer.

Deadline for application is August 16 2021.

The detailed announcement and application procedures can be found at Uppsala University as open position UFV-PA 2021/2815
