Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Open position: A fully-funded PhD position for a highly motivated student is available in the Materials Processing and Performance (MaPP) Lab at the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing, University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This position starts in Fall 2022.

About MaPP Lab: We focus on understanding the process-structure-property-performance relationships in materials at multi-length scales, with an emphasis on materials processing and optimization for improved performance in extreme service conditions.

Project and requirement: The goal of this research is to design new alloys with unique physical and functional properties using computational materials science tools. Students with master’s degree in physics or material sciences are encouraged to apply. The students should have experience in Python/MATLAB scripting, DFT-based codes (VASP or Quantum ESPRESSO), Alloy Theoretic Automated Toolkit (ATAT), and Calculation of PHase Diagram (CALPHAD) method. Knowledge of high-performance computing for materials modelling is desirable.
