Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The Predictive Materials Modeling group in Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Louisville has an opening for fully-funded PhD student position (beginning in Fall 2020 or Spring 2021) in the area of molecular modeling of solid-state alkali metal batteries. The project is supervised by Prof. Badri Narayanan, and is suitable for students with a passion for solid-state chemistry, materials science, programming and computational modeling, big-data analysis and machine learning.

The project involves use of material modeling (at atomic-to-mesoscopic length/time-scales) and machine learning to advance fundamental understanding of reaction chemistry, kinetics, charge transfer, and ion transport in high-performance solid-state alkali metal (lithium or sodium) batteries. The researchers on this project will have opportunity to collaborate extensively with experimental groups at University of Louisville, as well as several national laboratories (Argonne, Oak Ridge, and Army Research).

Applicants should hold a Bachelors or Masters degree in Materials/Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering; and have a strong background in materials science, and solid-state chemistry.  Prospective students with passion for scientific programming, materials modeling, and machine learning are encouraged to apply.

The appointed candidate will receive full-tuition coverage, stipend, and health insurance benefits.

Interested candidates should send their CV, statement of research interests, standardized test scores (GRE / TOEFL) and names of three references by email to Prof. Badri Narayanan ([email protected]).
