Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Open- ended Position as Computational Software Scientist at STFC

The Theoretical and Computational Physics Group is based in the Scientific Computing Department (SCD), which is part of the Science and technology Facilities Council (STFC) at UKRI. We are an international, family-friendly group that is active in diverse scientific projects, many of which are in collaboration with STFC’s large experimental Facilities such as the Diamond Light Source and the ISIS neutron and muon source.

We are currently looking for a Computational Software Scientist to join our group. The successful applicant will join a rapidly growing team whose aim is to transform how research is carried out at large experimental facilities through a multi-disciplinary approach to data processing, computer simulation and data analytics.  By building the software and providing computational and data analytics expertise, the team plan to spark a paradigm shift in the capability of scientists to design, analyse and interpret experiments.

This role will sit at the forefront between software development / deployment, and scientific research at large scale facilities. The role will involve interacting with software engineers, data scientists, STFC scientists and end-users of our systems.

This is a highly collaborative role, and you will work closely with a variety of people and, as such, the ability to interact and communicate well with others is a must. You must have the ability to develop good working relationships and be eager to develop skills in the interaction with experimental and computational scientists.  Knowledge about the physics and chemistry concepts involved in the sort of large-scale experiments performed at STFC is a plus.
