Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

We would like to invite applications for a postdoctoral position in the area of theoretical and computational nanoscience.

A strong emphasis of the research program is on the development of novel quantum mechanical methods for materials modeling. However, a successful candidate will also participate in applying the newly developed methods to study basic energy conversion processes in nanomaterials: electron excitations, charge separation and transfer, photoinduced chemical reactions.

Required qualifications:
* Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, materials science, applied mathematics, or another discipline relevant to computational nanoscience obtained within the last three years (i.e. not earlier than 2013).
* Excellent knowledge of theoretical methods of quantum mechanics for electronic structure modeling.
* Established track record in theory/methodology development.
* Strong background in scientific and/or high-performance computing.

Additional desired qualifications:
* Solid knowledge of numerical methods and algorithms, particularly optimization.
* Basic skills in parallel programming, especially MPI.
* Experience using CP2K or other software packages for electronic structure modeling and/or for ab initio simulations.
* Record of successful collaboration with experimental groups or across disciplines.
* Excellent oral and written communications skills.

McGill University is consistently ranked among the top global universities. The research that takes place here is world-renowned and of the highest quality. Our research program is remarkably interdisciplinary: we utilize methods of quantum and statistical mechanics, modern tools of applied mathematics and recent achievements in high-performance computing to make impact in the fields of chemistry and materials science. Through the ongoing collaborations, the members of our group will have an opportunity to interact with local and international experts (University of Zurich, ETH Zurich, and UC Berkeley) in these fields. We are located in downtown Montreal - one of the most vibrant scientific, cultural and business centers in North America.

Offer: The initial appointment is for one year and will be extended annually based upon satisfactory job performance. The initial salary depends on candidate’s experience. The evaluation of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a short skill test and then will be contacted individually for Skype interviews.

Please send your application with a CV to Prof. Rustam Khaliullin at [email protected]
