Salary Ranges: Lecturer – £46,410–£51,720 per annum; Senior Lecturer and Reader – minimum £57,020 per annum; Professor – minimum £72,480 per annum
The Department of Materials wishes to appoint a new colleague to join its academic staff. While the expectation is that this will be at the level of Lecturer, suitably qualified and experienced candidates may be considered for the post of Senior Lecturer, Reader or Professor. The appointed academic will be supported in his or her development of an internationally leading research programme in the area of Theory and Simulation of Materials (Materials Modelling).
The appointee will join a vibrant and exciting Materials department that enjoys an ethos of collaboration and is recognised as world leading. He or she will be expected to attract and supervise high-quality PhD students, supervise postdoctoral research staff, publish papers in leading peer-reviewed journals, disseminate research findings at international conferences, seek and obtain external research funding, and contribute to the Department’s outstanding undergraduate and Master’s teaching programmes. The appointee will be expected to interact with scientists and engineers from other departments at Imperial, as well as develop collaborations nationally and internationally.
We invite applications from exceptional candidates with research interests in any area of Theory and Simulation of Materials, but preference may be given to those with complementary expertise to existing academic staff in this area and who can demonstrate their ability to collaborate with academic staff in other areas. Research in the Department is organised into six themes (with key contacts): Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering (Professor Molly Stevens); Ceramics and Glasses (Professor Eduardo Saiz); Engineering Alloys (Professor Fionn Dunne); Functional Materials (Dr Sandrine Heutz); Nanotechnology and Nanoscale Characterisation (Professor Mary Ryan); as well as Theory and Simulation of Materials (Dr Andrew Horsfield).
Applicants should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in the physical sciences, engineering, or a related discipline, as well as substantial, relevant postdoctoral experience. The appointee will have (or have demonstrated the potential to develop) an international standing, an outstanding publication record, an established record of raising research funding and experience of teaching undergraduate students.
Imperial College is committed to building a supportive, inclusive and highly motivated staff community which is reflected in the Department of Materials as well as the College receiving Silver Athena SWAN awards. We support our staff in their work life balance with a range of benefits, full details of which are available at http://www.imperial.ac.uk/job-applicants/staff-benefits/.
The post is permanent, available immediately and will be based at the South Kensington Campus.
