Duties and Responsibilities

The Physics and Astronomy department at UCL is one of the top rated departments for research in its field in both the UK and globally as well as having an extensive teaching programme at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  Information regarding the department can be found at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/physics-astronomy.  Information regarding the CMMP Group in particular can be found at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/cmmp

 

We are now looking to appoint a Lecturer in Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. For this appointment we particularly seek candidates with research experience in:

 

1. Experimental scattering techniques (neutron, X-ray scattering etc.) 

2. Theoretical condensed matter physics.

 

Candidates specializing in other areas of condensed matter physics may also be considered, but they are strongly advised to make an informal inquiry to Prof. Steven Bramwell, Head of CMMP, before submitting their application.  

 

The successful candidate will be required to undertake academic research, to raise grants and publish papers, to supervise postgraduate students, to teach physics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and to participate in the work of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, UCL and the broader academic community. 

 

We would like the successful candidate to take up the position from Tuesday 2 January 2018, or shortly thereafter.

 

Key Requirements

The successful applicant will have a PhD or equivalent in Physics or a related subject and a strong track record of original and high quality research as evidenced by their publication record. 

 

It will be an advantage to have a track record of attracting funding as well as the successful supervision and management of research students. Excellent communication skills and proven teaching ability will also be an advantage.
