Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

*JUNIOR PROFESSORSHIP IN THEORETICAL CHEMISTRY OF MATERIALS DESIGN (W1
WITH TENURE TRACK LEADING TO W2)*
*
*
funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government
and the Federal States.

*Academic context*
The research groups of the Faculty of Chemistry and Mineralogy actively
target the advancement of the transdisciplinary foci “Chemistry in
Microspace”, “Materials and Energy”, “Sustainable Multifunctional
Catalysis” and “Chemical Theranostics”. There are particularly close
links with the neighbouring faculties of Physics and Earth Sciences, of
Life Sciences, and the Faculty of Medicine, e.g. via the BuildMoNa
Graduate School, as well as the University’s research profile areas
“Sustainable Systems and Biodiversity”, “Complex Matter” and “Molecular
and Cellular Communication”. Fruitful collaborations with non-university
institutions in Leipzig, such as the Leibniz Institutes for Surface
Modification and for Tropospheric Research, the Helmholtz Centre for
Environmental Research, the Leipzig branch of the Helmholtz Centre
Dresden-Rossendorf, and the University’s Centre for Biotechnology and
Biomedicine, strategically complement the research profile of the Faculty.

*Duties*
Development and application of quantum chemical methods, preferably
using future-oriented, theoretical approaches such as machine learning
or deep learning. The goal may be to generate and analyse design
concepts for novel functional nanomaterials (e.g. nanoparticles,
low-dimensional materials, hybrid materials), especially for
applications in energy storage and conversion. The professorship
participates in teaching duties at the Faculty, especially in the
bachelor’s, master’s and teacher training degree programmes in chemistry.
In addition to developing an independent research profile, the
professorship should also contribute to, complement and help develop the
existing research priorities at the Faculty, the University’s strategic
research fields as well as existing and planned research networks.

*Requirements*
A degree in chemistry, physics or a comparable subject is required, as
are an outstanding record in a current area of theoretical chemistry,
preferably in the area of materials design of functional nanomaterials,
and pedagogical aptitude. Experience in the successful acquisition of
external funding is desirable. Ideally, the candidate will have
performed interdisciplinary work. In research, the successful candidate
should complement and strengthen existing activities at the Faculty of
Chemistry and Mineralogy, also in line with Leipzig University’s wide
research profile areas. A willingness to cooperate closely within the
Faculty is expected.

The tenure track professorship is considered a position for early career
researchers. Therefore, the call is addressed to applicants with a
completed doctoral degree, attributed with magna cum laude or higher,
who seek further qualification and have not yet completed a
habilitation. If applicants were employed as research associates or
research assistants prior to or during the completion of their doctoral
studies, the total period of employment and work on the doctoral thesis
should not have exceeded six years. Applicants should have changed
universities after completing their doctorate or have been academically
active outside Leipzig University for at least two years. *They should
have completed their doctorate no more than four years ago.*

*What we offer*
The tenure-track professorship is initially limited to three years. It
will be extendable by a further three years subject to successful
intermediate evaluation according to the Regulations on the Interim
Evaluation Procedure for Junior Professors at Leipzig University
(ZEvaO). No later than five years after employment commences, a tenure
evaluation will be conducted under the Regulations on the Constitution,
Procedure and Evaluation of Tenure Track Professorships at Leipzig
University (TTO). The evaluation procedure is based on a binding, mutual
evaluation agreement concluded at the start of employment, which sets
out the development goals and expectations with regard to the
professor’s individual performance in the categories of research,
teaching, knowledge transfer as well as academic and non-university
commitment. After successful tenure evaluation, appointment to a
permanent W2 professorship pursuant to Sect. 59(2) Sentence 2 no. 2 of
the Saxon Freedom of Higher Education Act (SächsHSFG) will take place
without readvertising the vacancy.

Leipzig University is committed to gender equality.
Severely disabled persons are encouraged to apply and will be given
preference in the case of equal suitability.

Applications with the usual documents, including a detailed CV, a
research and teaching concept, a list of scientific work and academic
teaching, including evidence of past evaluation, as well as a certified
copy of the highest academic degree acquired should be sent, either by
post to:

Leipzig University
Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Mineralogy
Professor Roger Gläser
Johannisallee 29
04103 Leipzig

or electronically as a single PDF document to:

[email protected]

*Closing date: 20.08.2021*
