Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The Istituto Officina dei Materiali – Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR-IOM) in Trieste, Italy, A has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral position.  Funding for this position comes from ICSC – National Research Center in High Performance Computing, Big Data and Quantum Computing, funded by European Union – NextGenerationEU (ICSC) through an Innovation Grant on the following topic: "Accelerating the pace of the energy transition through simulation-guided discovery of advanced green materials". The project focuses on the development of new interatomic potentials via machine learning techniques for efficient atomic-scale simulations of advanced functional materials, in particular carbon-based membranes for adsorption of selected gaseous molecules. The project is in collaboration with other academic partners, in particular Prof. Stefano de Gironcoli (SISSA, Trieste), and with private industries (ENI).

The group (NANOMAT) is active in the field of atomic-scale theoretical simulations of materials and processes for catalysis, ranging from electrochemical and photoelectrochemical processes for energy conversion and storage to heterogeneous thermal catalysis. The new postdoctoral position will complement these activities exploring new methodologies and materials.

Requirements

• PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or a related discipline at the date of the application deadline, November 5, 2023.
• Good knowledge of electronic structure theory and previous experience in density functional theory calculations.
• Previous experience in the development of interatomic potentials via machine learning techniques and proficiency in programming in Python would be highly valued.

Contract

• The position will be initially for 15 months, with funding already secured for a renewal.
• The net salary is 1620 euros/month

The deadline for the application is November 5, 2023. Interested candidates are invited to send an informal enquiry with a cover letter and their CV, including the name and contact information of at least 2 references, to the supervisor of the project, Dr. Simone Piccinin (CNR-IOM), at the following email address: [email protected]

Best regards,

Simone Piccinin

CNR-IOM, Trieste
