Batteries move our world and are ubiquitous – they start the engine of our cars, they move the hands of your clocks and allow us to take pictures with our cell phones. The Helmholtz Institute Münster for Ionics in Energy Storage as part of the institute of Energy and Climate research focusses on electrolyte research as a key area for future battery concepts. Major research activities comprise the design, synthesis, characterization and processing of more sophisticated battery electrolytes and chemistries. Our institute operates as a branch office of Forschungszentrum Jülich in close cooperation with the University of Münster and RWTH Aachen University, in this way fostering joint research efforts while promoting this important forward-looking field of electrochemical energy storage.

We are looking to recruit a

Head of a young investigator group in battery research

Your Job:

you will establish a young investigator group in the field of battery research and independently shape promising research activities including project ideas and methods, thereby attracting third-party and public research funding
part of your responsibilities will be the independent supervision of PhD students
you will disseminate your research results e.g. by publishing in highly visible research journals and by participating in leading scientific conferences

Your Profile:

The successful candidate will be a research personality with a track record in electrochemistry as well as materials sciences of battery materials and electrochemical cells.
He/she should have convincing capabilities to tie in with the research activities of the Helmholtz Institute Münster, the Institute of Energy and Climate Research of Forschungszentrum Jülich, the MEET Battery Research Center and the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy of Münster University.

you will have excellent degrees, including a PhD, for example in chemistry, materials science or physics
You have gained experience as a postdoctoral researcher outside Germany (preferably USA or EU; necessary prerequisite for the position to be filled); in addition, a job change after your PhD will be viewed favorably, applications from abroad are also welcome
after your PhD you have spent up to five years in research related to the field of electrochemical energy storage
you have documented experience with independent research activities
your excellent communication skills in English (and preferably in German) will help you to supervise and guide your group
in interdisciplinary collaborations you were able to show your flexibility
