A fully funded PhD position in the field of theoretical condensed-matter physics and ultra-fast science is available in Milano, Italy. The position is funded as part of the MSCA doctoral network “Time-resolved simulations of ultra-fast phenomena in quantum materials” (TIMES, https://times.uv.es/) and the establishment of a strong synergy with other theory groups of the network is to be expected. Visiting periods and collaboration with the groups of the TIMES Network are foreseen.
The PhD candidate will work in the area of theoretical condensed-matter physics under the supervision of D. Sangalli (https://sites.google.com/view/davidesangalli). She/he will work on modelling pump and probe experiments in quantum materials out of equilibrium, with the real-time module of the yambo code (https://www.yambo-code.eu/). Priority will be given to candidates with former experience in the areas of first-principles electronic-structure calculations and Fortran/Python programming, and/or with a strong background in Many-Body Perturbation Theory. The project will foresee theoretical and computational developments, as well as applications in collaboration with experimental groups. Depending on the skills and the attitude of the candidate, the focus can be given on the applications or on the theoretical/numerical developments.
The PhD positions is for three years with a very competitive remuneration (much higher than standard Italian PhD grants) with extra funding for traveling.
Applicants should have a Master (or equivalent) degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science and a strong background in solid-state physics. Interested candidates should apply via the following link:

We welcome your application regardless of your age, gender, cultural and social background, religion, disability or sexual identity. We promote gender equality. Female candidates are given priority if they have equal qualifications and professional performance.
Applicants are encouraged to contact Davide Sangalli ([email protected]) for further information. Official selection procedure will be in June (the interview can be done remotely) after a pre-screening of the candidates.
