Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The Department of Physics at Durham University seeks to appoint a talented scientist to the role of Assistant Professor in Theoretical and Computational Condensed Matter Physics.

Applications at: https://www.dur.ac.uk/jobs/recruitment/vacancies/phys20-2/

The successful candidate will be a member of the Centre for Materials Physics (CMP) and will have research experience that complements and strengthens the existing areas of research within the CMP. Those with expertise in theory and/or simulations of solids, electronic structure, atomistic modelling, with the ability to bridge the gap between theory and experiment or with experience of applying data science and machine learning tools to the study of materials are particularly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate would have experience in building links from the results of fundamental theory and computation and then applying them, in detail, with experimental results on specific systems of interest (particularly those that are resistant to a purely first principles treatment). The successful applicant is expected to develop their own research program, to publish world-class research with a focus on quality in high impact journals and have the potential to engage with industrial partners. They will also be expected to collaborate in the development and delivery of high-quality research-led teaching in an inclusive and supportive learning environment which enables undergraduate and postgraduate students to achieve their potential. The position will start around October 2020.
