Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

We are looking for Doctoral researcher on first-principles simulations of complex alloys to join the group of Assist. Prof. H.-P. Komsa in Microelectronics Research Unit at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, University of Oulu, Finland.

The Microelectronics Research Unit (MIC) at the University of Oulu is a key player in materials research for electronics, sensors, and actuators. Our computational electronic materials team focuses on the computational studies of nanoscale components and materials. At the same time, the unit has vast experience in experimental research on electronics, telecommunications, and energy harvesting devices.

About the job

As a doctoral researcher You will:

  • Work on first-principles simulations of structure and vibrational properties, Raman spectra in particular, of complex multi-component alloys such as 2D material high-entropy alloys and photoferroelectric perovskites.
  • Develop machine-learning models for the structure and properties of the materials trained using first-principles simulations, and also contribute to the relevant method development carried out in our group.
  • Work with the local and international collaborators on comparing the simulated results with experiments to unravel the properties of these novel material systems and pave way for new and exciting applications.

What we offer?

  • The support of an experienced and enthusiastic multidisciplinary team where you can grow as an expert.
  • Work that matters and a workplace that promotes flexibility and work-life balance. Read more about working with us.
  • Our Buddy Programme and Spouse Network support you and close-ones in settling into Oulu.
