Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The Centre for Advanced 2D Materials at the National University of Singapore is looking for a postdoctoral research fellow to design and carry out an independent research program on theoretical or computational 2D materials in collaboration with two or more of the Principal Investigators within its theory group. This position offers internationally competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience.  The initial contract has the duration of two years and is afterwards renewable yearly, conditioned on a favourable annual performance evaluation review.  The first contract is expected to begin any time after January 1, 2019.

The CA2DM theory group comprises physicists, material scientists and engineers working towards understanding and predicting properties of atomically thin materials and their heterostructures.  Candidates will pursue an original research proposal that includes some overlap with the research interests of at least two of the following theorists at the center: Antonio Castro Neto, Giovani Vignale, Feng Yuan Ping, Shaffique Adam, Pinaki Sengupta, Vitor Pereira, Quek Su Ying, Justin Song, and Aleksandr Rodin.  More information about them can be found at https://graphene.nus.edu.sg/people/faculty/theory/

CA2DM was created for the conception, characterization, theoretical modeling, and development of transformative technologies based on two-dimensional crystals, such as graphene.  Aimed at being a world leader in innovative and emergent materials science, with strong ties to the industry and academia, the centre will directly contribute to a new generation of scientists and engineers who will have a permanent impact in the society and business enterprise landscape of Singapore, and worldwide.

Candidates must have a PhD in either theoretical or computational physics or a closely related field, and a strong track record of publishing high impact work.  Overlap of interests with experimental groups at the center or a track record of experimental collaboration is desirable.

Candidates must submit the application package online here
which must include the following:

  • One page narrative description of past research performance and its broader impact;
  • Original research proposal (no more than 5 pages) highlighting potential overlap with existing researchers at the center;
  • Resume (no more than 5 pages excluding list of publications);
  • List of publications;
  • List of at least 3 references that we may contact in connection with this application

Review of candidates will begin immediately. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
