Job opportunity for computational materials scientists in my group at Schott AG.

You are a computational materials scientist who likes to go beyond publications, and drive ideas from concept over prototypes all the way to production? Then this position might be for you.

Schott is a specialty glassmaker with a 140 year history, whose mission is to constantly push the envelope of what glass can do: from cover glass for foldable smartphones to laser glass for the recent fusion breakthrough experiment. Schott glass ceramics get close to zero thermal expansion, and may be covering your kitchen stove, but also make up the mirrors of the world's largest optical telescope. Schott is always looking for emerging fields, such as high-refractive index glass for augmented reality devices or glass-ceramic based solid-state electrolytes, all the while implementing their ambitious action plan for climate-neutral glass production by 2030. And Schott's unusual ownership structure creates a stable foundation for long-term thinking and sustainable development.

This position is located at Schott's R&D headquarters in Mainz, Germany. As a member of the Computational Engineering team, you will be embedded in an organization of world-leading experts and laboratories dedicated to every stage of glass making, from glass chemistry and analysis over melting, forming, to processing.

Prior experience in glass & glass ceramics is a plus, but not a prerequisite - we are looking for talented computational materials scientist of all backgrounds. Find the detailed job description and application procedure here - use your cover letter to tell us about hard problems you've worked on, how you solved them, and why you think you would thrive at Schott.
