Faculty Positions in Materials Theory and Simulation

The Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) are hiring faculty to support a broad initiative in advanced processing and manufacturing. In conjunction with that initiative, we seek applicants for tenure-track/tenured faculty positions in the area of materials theory and simulation. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: electronic structure calculations (e.g., density functional theory (DFT)), dislocation dynamics, phase field, and/or molecular dynamics, as a basis for understanding fundamental synthesis-structure-property/performance relationships in advanced materials. The successful applicant must be able to interact and work together with a group of experimentalists.

We seek applicants who will contribute to our programs and will leverage investments by the University in promoting interdisciplinary teaching and research. These investments include, among others, the Center for 4D Materials Science, Flexible Electronics and Display Center (https://flexdisplay.asu.edu/), Global Security Initiative (https://globalsecurity.asu.edu/), Lightworks (https://sustainability.asu.edu/lightworks/), and the Biodesign Institute (https://biodesign.asu.edu/), along with academic programs across the University. The current openings are intended to broaden our expertise and expand collaborations.

Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field. Required qualifications also include demonstrated evidence of research capability and commitment to teaching excellence as appropriate to the candidate’s rank. Desired qualifications include a commitment to a collaborative, transdisciplinary approach to research and teaching.

Faculty members are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and undertake service activities within the university, in the professional community, and at the national level.

Appointments will be at the assistant, associate or full professor rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2017.   Although the faculty appointment may be in any of the six Fulton Schools of Engineering, the Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering programs in the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy are currently among the most involved in the interest areas of the search.
