Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

APCTP, Pohang, South Korea

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Junior Research Group "Electronic structure and magnetism" led by Igor Di Marco at the Asia-Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP), Pohang, South Korea.

APCTP (https://www.apctp.org), founded in 1996, is a non-governmental organization aiming for an international center dedicated to excellence in research and the training of young scientists in the Asia-Pacific region. APCTP offers a great research environment with strong connections to a number of active theoretical and experimental research groups at the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH). APCTP has broad international agreements with many leading institutions around the globe for scientific exchanges.

The research performed by this group is focused on the following topics:
   * electronic and magnetic properties of strongly correlated materials, ranging from complex oxides and rare-earth compounds to transition metals doped topological insulators;
   * development of computational methods for strongly correlated systems, based e.g. on dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) or GW;
   * development of theoretical methods for X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS);
   * construction of a database of electronic properties of rare-earth compounds.

Requirements:

The candidate should have a PhD in Condensed Matter Physics, Theoretical Chemistry or Materials Science and have demonstrated an excellent scientific record of publications. The candidate should have a good knowledge of solid state physics, many-body physics and/or magnetism. Previous experience in electronic structure calculations and/or many-body models is required. Previous programming experience (in particular with Fortran or C) is an advantage. Fluency in English is required. Your application package should include a brief cover letter (max 2 pages), the names of three professional references (possibly including your doctoral supervisors), and your curriculum vitae with a list of publications.

Please send your application package to [email protected].

Starting date:

Ideally in September or October.

Employment:

The initial appointment is for one year, but can be extended up to three years, depending on research performances and available funding. Review of applications will continue until the positions are filled.
