The Materials Theory group at the University of Trento, Italy, advertises the opening of 5 fully funded PhD positions in the field of condensed matter theory. The PhD positions include a 4800 Euros allowance each for traveling to conferences and schools.
The topics covered by the PhD positions are (the labeling is consistent with the labeling in the official call, see below):
PhD Grant B: Exciton dynamics from first-principles, supervisor Prof. Pierluigi Cudazzo
funded by Next Generation EU
PhD Grant G: 2D materials for hydrogen splitting, supervisor Prof. Matteo Calandra
PhD Grant H: Innovative Materials for Hydrogen splitting, supervisor Prof. Matteo Calandra
both funded by the autonomous province of Trento, https://greendealtrento.eu/
PhD Grant I: Electron-phonon interaction in photoexcited materials, supervisor Prof. Matteo Calandra
PhD Grant J: Discovering light-induced phases by first-principles material design, supervisor Prof. Matteo Calandra
both funded by the EU community via the ERC advanced grant - DELIGHT
The deadline for the application is the 31st of may 2023. The application has to be submitted
at the following link:

Each applicant can apply to a maximum of 3 PhD fellowships.
The phd will be attributed by an official competition. The selection will involve an evaluation of the CV of the candidate and, in the case of a positive evaluation, an interview that will be carried out at the beginning of July. For the selected candidates the PhD position will start the 1st of November 2023.
The applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the Materials Theory group before applying to the official call, by sending a motivation letter in which they express the interest in up to three of the aforementioned 5 PhD grants and a CV to:
[email protected]
The winners of the PhD competitions will join the Materials Theory group at University of Trento. The team performs first-principles based simulation of structural and electronic properties of materials using single particle and many body techniques. Key fingerprints of the team are the understanding of spectroscopy and the development of new theoretical approaches to tackle complex problems in the physics of materials.
