Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (http://www.cityu.edu.hk/mse) of the City University of Hong Kong is actively recruiting ~5 computational materials scientists for tenure- track/tenured faculty positions. Additional opportunities exist for computational materials scientists via joint appointments with other departments.

City University of Hong Kong is a dynamic, fast-growing university in the heart of Asia’s world city and innovation hub. Established in 1994, CityU operates in a Western-style academic system and is ranked 5th in universities under 50, 8th in Asia overall, and 49th in the world (2018 QS World University Rankings). CityU enjoys outstanding research funding opportunities (from Hong Kong, the Pearl River Delta region, and national research programs of China), and offers outstanding salary, benefits and start-up packages. In short, this is an extraordinary opportunity for new computational materials science in one of the world’s most exciting, rapidly advancing universities.

The CityU Department of Materials Science and Engineering, established in 2017 and the only MSE department in Hong Kong, aspires to become one of the world-leading materials research departments. The Department is prioritized within the CityU family to grow to ≥35 full-time faculty members (in addition to a large body of faculty shared with other departments). As computational materials science continues to grow in its centrality to all materials research sectors, our proximity to world-class high-performance computing, regional strategic foci on materials genomics, and integration of existing strength with research priorities in Greater China makes this the right time and right place for building world-class computational materials science careers.

The MSE Department is now searching for outstanding junior and mid-career computational materials scientists in the following areas (exceptional candidates in other computational materials science areas will also be considered):

  • Density functional theory/first-principles calculations, material genomics, machine learning and interatomic potential development

  • High performance structural materials (e.g., high temperature, high strength, tough, and/or lightweight materials)

  • Mesoscale/microstructure/micromechanics simulations

  • Density functional theory/first-principles transport calculations for electrons, spins, photons, excitons and polarons in complex organic and/or inorganic materials

  • Computational design of functional interfaces and devices, multi-dimensional perovskites, and materials for charge transport

  • Photo/electrocatalysis (e.g., HER, OER, NRR and CO2 reduction)

Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and track-record of outstanding research performance. Evidence of the skill set required to build a dynamic, collaborative research program is a plus. Interested applicants should formally apply through the CityU Human Resource Office Online System: http://www.cityu.edu.hk/hro/en/job/current/academic.asp?ref=uac-a237. For full consideration, please apply by February 15, 2019.

City University of Hong Kong promotes excellence through diversity and encourages all qualified individuals to apply.
