Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Dear colleagues:

The Department of Physics, Auburn University (Alabama, USA) is pleasured to announce openings for a postdoctoral research position and a Ph.D. position with full-time Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) in computational materials physics, both funded by the US Department of Energy (DOE) as a four-year multi-institution collaborative effort led by DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). These positions are available immediately and focuses on advanced phase change materials (PCM) and thermochemical materials (TCM) for long duration thermal energy storage (TES) applications.

For the postdoctoral position, we are seeking individuals with Ph.D.  degrees in physics, chemistry, materials/mechanical engineering, or related fields.  Candidates with experience or interests in atomistic simulations, DFT calculations, and high-performance computing (HPC) are welcome to apply. Preference will be given to applicants with a background or interest in developing machine-learning interatomic potentials (MLIAP).

As for the GRA position, applicants should be eligible for admission to Auburn University’s PhD degree program in physics.  Interested candidates are invited to submit their CVs for initial evaluation.

Please send all inquires and application documents first to Prof. JJ Dong ([email protected]). Please include one of the following subject titles for your initial email inquiries “DOE-EERC postdoc position” or “DOE-EERC funded GRA”. To apply and access additional information regarding the postdoctoral position, please refer to the details below:

Postdoctoral Fellow

Computational Material Physics

Auburn University

The Department of Physics at Auburn University is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Fellow to perform research in the computational materials physics group led by Prof. Jianjun (JJ) Dong. Research will be focused on a computational study of degradation mechanisms of phase change materials (TCM)  and  thermochemical materials (TCM) for long duration thermal energy storage applications. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate on this research as part of the Department of Energy’s Energy Earthshot Research Center (DOE-EERC) led by a research team at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The successful person for this position must have expertise in atomistic scale materials simulations as well as strong programming and data analysis skills. Desired past research experience includes first-principles density-functional theory, molecular dynamics simulation methods, and machine-learning interatomic potentials.

Candidates are required to have a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or a related field at the time the appointment begins. Strong interpersonal and written communication skills are required. To apply, please upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and Statement of Research and Goals at the following link: https://www.auemployment.com/postings/39386

You will also need to provide the names and contact information for three professional references. To learn more about the Department of Physics at Auburn University, please visit: https://www.auburn.edu/cosam/departments/physics/index.htm
