A 4-year PhD studentship in the group of Professor David Scanlon (http://www.davidscanlon.com) is available, focussed on using Computational techniques to find new wide band gap oxides for optoelectronics applications. The Scanlon Materials Theory Group is relocating to the School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham in September 2023, so the student will enjoy a brand new £83 Million pound building with a state-of-the-art dedicated Computational Research suite, and will have access to a multi-million pound investement in HPC capability at the University. The project is funded by a successful ERC Consolidator award that has been converted to a UKRI funding due to the UK's failure to associate with the Horizon Europe programme. There is ample funding for national and international conference attendance. The studentship is available to UK qualified students only, however, students who could find the difference between home UK fees and international fees can be considered.
