Outstanding candidates are sought to work at the UCLouvain (Louvain-la-neuve, Belgium) and UNamur (Namur, Belgium) on the SURFASCOPE project, focusing on the design and implementation of a numerical approach to interpret and guide Surface Enhanced Vibrational Spectroscopies (SEVS), based on second-principles calculations, i.e. on top of first-principles calculations (ABINIT, GAUSSIAN). Starting date 1 September 2019 or later.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Highly motivated individuals with either (1) MSc (or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science for the PhD positions; or (2) PhD with a solid background in classical and/or ab initio simulations for the postdoc. Demonstrated coding experience is required (FORTRAN and/or Python). Good knowledge of English, both written and oral, is compulsory.
ABOUT THE GROUP:
The retained candidates will join a large national and international collaboration: the positions are funded for joint work between the UCLouvain (X. Gonze and G.-M. Rignanese) and UNamur (L. Henrard and V. Liégeois), Belgium, with collaborators at the ULiège, Belgium, (MULTIBINIT), at the U. Santander, Spain, (SCALE-UP) and in the CEA, Bruyères-le-Châtel, France (ABINIT).
CONTRACT DETAILS (PhD):
Doctoral positions are funded for four years, in the form of renewable one-year contracts. Two of the PhD students will be located at UCLouvain and two at UNamur, with frequent visit to the other university. Salaries follow the legal scale for doctoral positions in Belgium (indicatively around 1800 Euros after taxes). The candidates should have obtained recently (no more than 4 years) their MSc.
CONTRACT DETAILS (Postdoc):
Postdoctoral position is a once-renewable one-year contract. Salary follows the legal scale for postdoctoral positions in Belgium (indicatively around 2000 Euros after taxes). The candidate should be in situation of international mobility (not to have resided in Belgium more than 24 months in the last 3 years), and not have passed the PhD more than 6 years before the beginning of the stay..
