Job announcements relevant to people interested in electronic structure calculations…

Due to the large number of posts recently, there is currently a delay of several weeks between posts being submitted and the corresponding emails being distributed to all users. Please bear with us while we try to improve this. In the meantime – and until this notice is removed – it would assist us considerably if you could submit only important and/or urgent posts and thus help to reduce the size of the mail queue. Under no circumstances should you resend posts multiple times when you find the emails are not distributed immediately.

In light of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, we request that announcements relating to events, jobs and other activities associated with institutions supported by the Russian and Belarusian states are not posted to the Psi-k forum.

Two new post-doc opportunities (post-doc/software engineers) are open in the Materials Software and Data Group, part of the Laboratory for Materials Simulations, in the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Switzerland.

Candidates will contribute to the development of the AiiDA workflow engine, focusing on supporting large data scales and next-generation High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructures. The selected candidates will work under the supervision of Dr. Giovanni Pizzi and will be fully integrated into the core development team of AiiDA.

These positions are funded under the SwissTwins project, offering close collaboration with project partners such as the Swiss Supercomputer Center CSCS, EPFL, and ETHZ, among others. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to engage in collaborative projects across Switzerland and Europe, expanding your network of international collaborations.
Upon interest, research topics can be integrated in the job, e.g. expanding the research on the high-throughput materials databases developed in the group.

We are seeking candidates with a PhD degree in the physical sciences (e.g., physics, chemistry, or materials science/engineering) and a strong passion for programming. Essential qualifications include experience in running simulations on HPC and proficient software development and Python programming skills. Desirable skills include familiarity with Python backend development, HPC simulation software, managing software projects in a team, and handling large amounts of data.

The detailed job description and instructions on how to apply can be found here: https://www.psi.ch/en/pa/job-opportunities/57825-postdoctoral-fellows-software-engineers
The application deadline is on July 30th, 2023.

If you know someone who might be interested in this opportunity, please feel free to forward this announcement to them.

Best regards,
Giovanni Pizzi
